This week I ordered some stunning baked goods from Chanel's Cakery. Chanel's Cakery is great because you can pick whichever baked treats you like rather than buying an assorted box like at George's Bakery which is likely more cost effective but inevitably there is the case that there will be some things you don't like in the assortment.
Chanel's Cakery is based in Harlow Essex and their bakes are available through custom orders and postal box orders but they do not have an established shop bakery as such where you can go to purchase buns in person. Established in 2019 by Chanel Cook it has grown massively since and they have gained a following of 33.7K on instagram and 146.1K on tiktok.
I left my order a bit late but still managed to grab some tasty goodies! Let's get into the review...
I loved the packaging from Chanel's, it was really nice to open and everything was very well packaged with the packing peanuts which were biodegradable aswell - it's great to see small businesses being eco-friendly.
The first thing I ordered was a Nutella Cookie Pie and it was £4 for a slice.
This was so good! The middle is nutella and kinder buenos and it was just so yummy. The cookie was baked harder at the top but very gooey at the bottom so was kind of like eating cookie dough which I also loved. It was very filling but really good and even better when I microwaved it for 30 seconds and the cookie dough was gooey and the nutella was lovely and melty. This is especially helpful if you choose to refrigerate the baked goods so they last longer as the nutella does get quite hard in the fridge! 9.5/10 - so yummy, I will definitely be ordering this again!
I also tried a Smores Cookie Pie because I was very intrigued by the whole cookie pie thing having never tried one before. Once again it was £4 for the slice.
This was also amazing with marshmallows and biscuits throughout the filling, it wasn't quite as sickly which some people might prefer but it didnt out do that Nutella Cookie Pie for me! But was still really good - 9/10.
I decided to try a Double Chocolate Large Biscoff Cookie for £4, I wasn't sure about this was as it was kind of inbred biscuits but...
It was soo good! At first I thought it was a biscoff biscuit on top of a cookie but upon further bites of the cookie I realised there was biscoff spread throughout the cookie kind of like a filling but it was the perfect amount to not be too biscoff-y and it went so well with the double chocolate cookie. I have to add the chocolate in these bakes is soo good and tastes amazing! I rate this one a 9/10 aswell!
Then last but definitely not least was a Reeses and Snickers Brownie, also £4. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a bit too much chocolate going on.
But it was truly the best brownie I have ever eaten. The flavours went so well together and it was so yummy. Also I heated it up and paired it with some chocolate squirty cream from M and S and it was divine! I definitely will be needing to order another one of these. You may have noticed the lack of friends rating in this review... my sharing wasn't quite as good as last time! It was all just too good to share!
I thought that Chanel's Cakery was very reasonably priced although postage is £6.50 and if you live in Northern Ireland it will be sent via royal mail first class. One thing to bear in mind is that regardless of when you order in the week your package will be shipped out on a Thursday. Unfortunately Royal Mail let me down and the package still hadn't arrived after 5 days, when the estimated delivery time is 1-3 days. I contacted Chanel's Cakery and was able to get a tracking number and found out the my package was at a post centre as delivery had apparently been attempted... I have a ring doorbell, Royal Mail had not been to try to deliver the parcel. But anyway I was able to go get it a begin trying the tasty treats as soon as I found out! I would say to just keep an eye on the parcels via the tracking info provided as with baked goods being shipped it will impact how long you have to eat them as they generally last a week from Chanel's cakery unless you refrigerate or freeze them which will extend their life!
Chanel was kind enough to answer a few questions about her small business and share some tips. I begain by asking what inspired her to start he business? She responded saying "I've always enjoyed baking, I literally turned my hobby into a business and I don't even know how. I just loved seeing my creations and the fact that people loved them as well."
Luckily as I was speaking to the CEO of the business I could also ask what her favourite thing about being a small business owner is? She said "I love being my own boss, I never want to work for anyone ever again. Small businesses really are the best." Entrepreneurs have this massive benefit of being their own boss which means being able to choose their own hours, holidays and have a lot of control over what their job consists for. Definitely sounds like a good position to be in during your working career to me.
Chanel added that her favourite part of her job was seeing and hearing that customers love her products.
Anyways baking is the focus of this blog so I am always intrigued at what a bakers favourite thing to bake is when it is their career and they bake such a variety of things. She said "Brownies!! I love everything about them". Thankfully I ordered a brownie!
I then followed up by asking what her favourite baked good to eat is? She replied, "Brownies again!! I know I'm biased but my brownies bang!"
For some advice for any other entrepreneurs or future enetrepreneurs that are reading my blog I wantted to ask "If you could give someone starting or running a small business one piece of advice what would it be?" She replied "Keep going! Don't give up! Keep posting those pics, put yourself out there and don't stop until people start to notice." Finally after discussing in previous blog posts the advertising opportunitiest that tiktok now offers to businesses I was interested to know "What would you say has been your most useful social media to advertise your business and why? Chanel said "Tiktok for the win, I never used it until this year and it sent my sales through the roof, the engagement on tiktok is crazy and really helps with orders!" Safe to say tiktok is definitely the way to go with social media advertising at the minute!
Thank you so much for reading my blog posts up to this one and I really appreciate anyone sharing with friends or leaving any feedback in the comments!
